Estimated Expense Planner Now that you are engaged it is time to start getting the important questions answered. Setting the budget for the wedding is the key to a great wedding as well as a good marriage. You and your finance need to agree on the expenses before you go any further in the planning. The budget will dictate the size and the style of the wedding. Write down your wishes and desires and compare notes. Distinguish your ‘wishes’ from your ‘must haves’. Determine the most important elements of the wedding, your priority list. Remember there will have to be room for compromise. Put more money towards the areas that are important and take budget away form the areas that are not as much of a priority. You may want to have great food, which may mean not having a live band. You may want to have an extravagant cake, which may mean having less to spend on flowers. Whichever you choose, remember to stay on track with the expenses as you move forward with the planning process. Use the Estimated Expense Planner to assist you with setting up the budget. This is a simple guideline with estimated expenses. Some categories may not apply to you, in which case you can move the dollars to another preferred area. Calculate the estimated budget by multiplying your budget times the estimated percentage. Sample $30,000 (total budget) x 5% (estimated total) = $1,500.
